Prior to joining 13News, he worked as a Weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter for WTTG FOX 5 in Washington, D.C.from Novermber 1987 to 1990. Before that, Jeff worked as a meteorologist for WWBTand NBC12 Raycom Media in Richmond, Virginia from 1983 to 1987.

From January 1982 to 1883, he worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is the umbrella organization for the National Weather Service. While there, Jeff worked with Dr. Vern Dvorak to develop methods of estimating the strength of tropical systems from satellite pictures. Moreover, this method still is used extensively by the National Hurricane Center to estimate how strong tropical systems are.

Additionally, he joined Accu-Weather in January 1981 in State College, Pennsylvania Area where he worked as a meteorologist. His job there was to call weathercasters who were not meteorologists and tell them what to say on television that night. Jeff also did radio forecasts for other clients including municipalities, power companies, and ski resorts.
